I just had an occurrence of one of those "something that was right at the time but comes back to bite" situations. Some time ago, probably at the time that Gentoo ebuilds for PHP changed from dev-php to dev-lang, the instructions at the time said that a bunch of USE flags had to be specified for … Continue reading We fixed the blog…

I haven't been keeping a close eye on my hitmap. I have to admit that I really only registered it so that I could visualise the places I visited on my world-jaunt in March 06. Nor have I ever spent much time checking out the excellent website analysis that my installation of AWStats provides. This will change, as … Continue reading Hitmap and stats
I think I tried to get back into things too soon. My angiogram wound site has been giving me a lot of grief the last day or so. So it's back to semi-time at work, and more rest -- difficult when Susan is terribly sick with the cold/flu/infection she's carrying. When I had my first angiogram (two years … Continue reading Back active too soon
I'm getting to the bottom of my IPCop VPN problem. Basically it's a side effect of what I thought was a really neat feature of my sister's Speedtouch ADSL modem that has bitten me.The neat feature in question is a kind of IP address passthrough it provides. It allows the modem to maintain the ADSL connection to … Continue reading More on VPNs (or, moron VPNs)…
Talking about VPNs in the last message made me realise a bunch of work I've done over the last month trying to set up a net-to-net IPSec VPN to my sister's place using IPCop. End result (so far, as I won't let it rest) is that it's not working and I'm stuffed if I can work … Continue reading IPCop and VPNs
Thanks to an article in Linux Journal (I think) a few months ago, I discovered ZCS as a possible webmail/calendaring application. Since it's a bit more than just webmail though, I'll probably have to have a bit of a think about whether it's the right way to go.Ever since I moved the main server off Red … Continue reading Zimbra Collaboration Suite
The angiogram ended up being a bit late, but the result couldn't have been better: NORMAL! That means that even the 30% blockage I had two years ago is now gone. An excellent result! Now I'm home and raring to get back into things.
Given a bit of time on my hands at the moment (see the last entry), I'm thinking about changes to the system environment at the Crossed Wires campus. Current setup is way too complex, so some rationalisation is in order. Out the door will go some things I'm using just for-the-sake-of-it, and some new things will probably … Continue reading System planning
So I managed to get myself back in hospital again. Almost the same situation as the first time: bad gastro, leading to dehydration, leading to chest pain. All is okay though; I'm in no danger, and the main symptoms were more related to heartburn than anything else! This time, all the cardiac tests were showing negative until just … Continue reading Singin’ the Angiogram Blues
Regular readers will know I have a youngster. As the houshold geek, the responsibility for giving the little guy (and any siblings that might subsequently arrive) his initiation into the "online world". Secure in the knowledge that this would be some years away yet, I postponed thinking about the problem. Until I offered to get my nephews online, … Continue reading The Internet aint all that nice a place to be
