Goose Strikes Again

I’m setting up some of the VoIP booty I picked up in Singapore.  One of the items is the new Linksys-ised Sipura SPA3000 (will come in handy to provide an emergency power-out phone service that still works normally through the Asterisk rig).  I’m hooking it up to the analogue phone line that provides ADSL, so that we can get some extra use out of it (like remote voice-mail checking and so on).  So I’m trying to work out why the caller-ID data isn’t being passed through from PSTN to VoIP…  I’m hitting heaps of web pages talking about configuration changes for Australian tones and so on, all with no luck.  Then I see a post on Whirlpool, where someone says “are you sure you have caller-ID on the line?”  D’OH!  Of course I’m not going to pay Telstra’s $6/month bring-our-network-into-the-twentieth-century caller-ID tax on a line that will never get used for calls!  Dopey me.
