No updates here for a couple of days, as it appeared that the hotel in DC had no Internet connectivity. So, now from Boston, a little bit of news about what happened in the US Capital.
We were delayed arriving thanks to the bad weather around the Great Lakes on Monday night — our flight from JFK to Washington National originated in Toronto and was held up leaving there due to the weather. We were only an hour late (roughly) leaving JFK, which is because of the no-frills service on American Eagle (they basically started boarding us as soon as the Toronto passengers were off the plane). After a fairly uneventful taxi ride through DC, we arrived at our hotel at about 1am.
The main event on Tuesday was the visit to the National Air and Space Museum Steven F Udvar-Hazy Centre. Since we didn’t catch the bus there until 11am, we filled in the morning by walking to the White House (I saw the North entrance for the first time), the Washington Monument, the National Mall and the Capitol Building. See the separate blog entry about the Hazy Centre, but it is well worth it for all plane and space nuts.
After the Hazy Centre we wound down with our return walk to the hotel (it seemed closer to the Mall on the maps (: ). We resumed our sightseeing today with a walk to the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean and Vietnam Veterans’ Memorials, and the new World War II Memorial (which was under construction on my last visit to DC).
We packed a fair amount into a couple of days, and are a bit worn out now! Boston awaits, however!
