When does Shareware become crippleware? When a critical function is removed from the free distribution of a program, and only activated when you purchase it. I just wasted half an hour on a program called Audio Edit by mp3towav.org — nowhere in the documentation does it say that you can’t save anything unless you register!
NO, mp3towav.org, I do not consider it an effective trial if I cannot replay my work on the intended output device (which might be my iPod, meaning I’d have to save the file to transfer it).
More’s the point, I don’t consider it value-for-money to pay for a software product that I’m only going to use once.
What’s embarassing is that this came about simply because I was too lazy to boot up my Linux desktop box and do the work there. Go figure!
